Meet the Team:

Bryce Shapley

Cyclezone owner, Bryce Shapley“I’ve had a love affair with riding ever since I tackled the Great Lake Cycle Challenge as a 12 year old. It took me nearly eight hours. The next year I was back for more, slashing my time by almost half – I was hooked. From there I went on to represent New Zealand in national teams, racing overseas, particularly in Canada and the United States. I stopped riding competitively in 2003, and now ride purely for the love it – unfortunately my ability to do so has been slightly hampered by our two small children, but that hasn’t changed my passion for cycling and now my focus is on helping families just like us get into cycling for life.”

Matt Lemen

“I’m a Canadian Kiwi, having been in New Zealand for two and a half years. Bikes and bike shops are in my genes, my family owns a bike shop back in Canada, and I’ve been working with and around bikes since I was four years old. My passion is mountain biking, and I take the opportunity to get out into the Redwoods nearly every day.”

Marcello Ojerio

“Originally from Oregon, I’ve now married a kiwi and have been in New Zealand since <>. My passion for cycling stems from the freedom of being able to go almost anywhere with a mountain biking. My favourite mountain biking trails are in Oak Ridge <> in Orgeon, of the W2K Track just outside Taupo – mountain biking, camping, good friends – you can’t beat it.”

‘I’m off to the USA for the NZ winter. Be back in September…….. ride hard!”

Clay Gulliver

I’m a born and bred Rotorua local and have been riding all my life. My other sporting passion is triathlon, which I can combine with my love for riding. I’m a fan of both road and mountain biking – road biking for my triathlon training, and mountain biking for fun! After representing New Zealand at both Sprint Triathlon and Long Distance international events, I’m currently working towards the Half Ironman distance.”

Kris Withington

We have welcomed Kris back in to the Cyclezone team after a long absence. (Kris started his bike shop days way back in the early 90′s with us)

Erica Hofstee

Erica HofsteeErica has recently had an awesome opportunity to work in her chosen field of expertise. So Erica will now be working the odd weekend and casual at Cyclezone. Good Luck Erica!! We will miss you.

“I’m a relative newcomer to cycling – compared to these guys anyway – as I first started riding in 2001. Now I love getting out on my mountain bike – Rotorua is one of the best places in the world for mountain biking – but I’m a keen road cyclist too.”

Gillian Shapley

Gillian Shapley“I started riding in 2003, motivated by the drive to do an Ironman. I completed the New Zealand Ironman in 2004 and 2005. Now, I enjoy a bit of road riding, a bit of mountain biking and a bit of getting out with our preschool kids on their bikes! Being a physiotherapist, my focus is on combining the bike fit and set up with the person involved to make sure they are getting the most out of their riding experiences.”
