History
Cyclezone has a long history in Rotorua. Now owned and operated by Bryce Shapley, Cyclezone has grown alongside the region’s love affair with biking, both on the road and out in the forest. The business continues to grow, prompting the move to a new, purpose-built location in a sought-after position alongside Rotorua’s main crossroads.
1967
Bryce’s Grandfather Andrew Shapley establishes Equipment Services in Amohau Street, Rotorua, selling and repairing outdoor equipment and small engines including bikes
1969
Store moves to Arawa Street for a period of time before relocating back to Amohau Street in larger premises
1973
Tragically, Andrew passes away as a result of a car accident and son Nick takes over the store for the family, eventually buying it. Name changes to Key Equipment Services
1974
Current owner Bryce Shapley is born and the Specialized Bicycle Company is founded in the United States
1985
As business grows, a new building is required with bikes becoming a major part of the business. Name evolves as a result to Key Cycles
2001
New location and building adds huge growth to bikes and other product ranges. Cyclezone name adopted for bike department
2003
Bryce takes over the running of the department, meeting wife Gillian along the way
2006
Bryce purchases Cyclezone, establishing it as an independent business
2010
A new era in cycle retail arrives in Rotorua with the opening of Cyclezone’s new purpose-built retail and service centre in Fenton St
